TAIWAN RETAIL MARKET Taiwan retained its title as the country with the highest density of convenience stores and ranked second in the hypermarket category, according to the latest ACNielsen report on shopping trends in the Asia-Pacific region. Given Taiwan's population of 23 million, each convenience store in the country serve about 2,600 people. In terms of hypermarkets, each outlet serves 212,264 people. Hypermarkets top the retail store format for more than 50 percent of shoppers in Taiwan. The convenience store is also a fast-emerging sector with more than 85 percent of urban shoppers.
