HIGHLIGHTS IN RETAILING MARKET

Wal-Mart considering taking over Makro Malaysia

Wal-Mart Stores Inc is among several retailers which have expressed interest in taking over the Makro Cash & Carry Distribution (M) Sdn Bhd stores in Malaysia. Other interested parties would include Costco Wholesale Corp of the US, Germany's Metro Cash & Carry, Dairy Farm Group of Hong Kong, the operator of the Giant hypermarket in Malaysia, and the UK's Tesco . Costco and Metro currently operate in the Asia Pacific region but yet to make an entry into Malaysia.
 
Makro Malaysia has planned to exit its business operation from the country.
