In France, hypermarkets are generally situated in "commercial zones" (In French: Centre Commercial) outside of cities. They are surrounded by extensive parking lots, and generally by other specialized large stores (for instance, selling clothing, sports gear, automobile items, etc.). In France, The dominant chain is Carrefour which is the 2nd largest chain of hypermarkets in the world after Wal-Mart. Other important brands include Géant which has a presence in 113 countries.
 
Géant has about 113 hypermarkets all over the world. The concept is to have all kinds of items available under one roof - from common household items & food to computers and home theatre systems. The Géant card system has been introduced which rewards customers for their loyalty. There are over two million Géant card-holders today.
